You are sure of a peaceful time in our lovely village of Hooke. It nestles in a valley between two ridges of the famous Dorset hills, close to several major roads but with very little traffic other than the odd tractor.

When walking around the village you will see our charming ancient Church of St Giles and Hooke Court, both dating from the 15th century; Hooke Woods, which in spring is carpeted with bluebells and has many beautiful paths to wander; and the river and several picturesque ponds and lakes.

As well as an abundance of common British wildlife and familliar farm animals, you will see ponies and donkeys grazing and, if you are lucky, may even see a kingfisher. In addition, some of West Dorset’s finest views are waiting for you as you drive to Beaminster or Bridport. In particular, the Iron Age hill fort on Eggardon Hill has spectacular views over the county and is a good destination for walkers.

Beaminster
Beaminster is just 3 miles from Hooke and is a popular market town for local people. The town is very picturesque with beautiful, well-crafted buildings. Some of the local churches even resemble older castles as well. If you choose to visit this place, you will surely be greeted with a warm smile.

Mapperton
We are also just a 5 minute drive from Mapperton which is noted for its manor house, with both house and gardens open to the public during the summer months. The recent popular film, ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ was filmed here.

Bridport and West Bay
Bridport is a thriving market town situated just a mile from the coast at West Bay. It has a bustling Saturday and Wednesday market and the people are renowned for their love of the arts with a good choice of small venues for theatre, music, film and visual arts. West Bay has two beaches and a busy fisherman’s harbour with lots of things available to keep both the young and perhaps not so young entertained!

Lyme Regis
Lyme Regis is a popular seaside resort on the Jurassic coast and is about 20 miles from Hooke. There is a sandy beach and lots of independent shops to browse around or wander around the beautifully manicured public terraced garden. The Cobb protects the harbour and has been depicted in numerous films over the years and the town is truly just a lovely place to visit.
